Get Involved

The mission of the Lorain County Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem Program is to recruit, train, guide, monitor and maintain qualified CASA-GAL volunteers (Court Appointed Special Advocates-Guardian ad Litem), who are appointed by the Lorain County Juvenile Court Judge as Guardian ad Litem to advocate for the best interests of children who are before the court as a result of abuse, neglect and dependency as defined by state child welfare laws.  CASA-GAL volunteers serve as an independent voice throughout the juvenile court proceedings, until a safe and permanent home is found for each child.

How Do CASA-GAL Volunteers Help Children?

CASA-GAL volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused and neglected children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.
